Where the Curious Go Beyond

The York School is a co-ed, independent school in the heart of Toronto, Canada that offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. In 2003, The York School became a leader in meaningful technology integration by creating the department of Learning, Innovation and Technology. The School continues to embrace new technologies, supporting learning both inside and outside the classroom to help curious students become globally minded leaders.

There are many factors that set York apart. Our state-of-the-art urban campuses, focus on social-emotional learning and unparalleled university preparation are just a few of them – but curiosity is what really defines us. Curiosity propels us beyond the walls of our classrooms, beyond the usual projects and field trips, beyond common assumptions about the world. It inspires us to take risks, explore innovative ideas and reach our fullest potential.

We invite you to get curious with us: attend an event, book a tour, and experience our community to learn what makes our world so special.

The IB Advantage at York

The York School is proud to be the first English language independent school in Canada to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) program from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. We continue to maintain a strong working relationship with the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), allowing us to be on the cutting edge of IB innovation. Our graduates consistently score well above the IB world average.

Our IB approach to learning is cross-curricular and project-based, which means that whether students are in English class or Science class, they’re studying similar themes and concepts. Our collaborative teaching model enables students to approach learning through multiple lenses.

At every level, York’s IB programs nurture age and stage appropriate personal development and academic achievement. Every day, our teachers challenge our students to think critically, ask the right questions, demonstrate curiosity and think across disciplines.

Beyond Expectation:
Our Difference

Our philosophy of curiosity inspires more than what we learn. It guides our interactions with each other and the world around us. The result is an innovative, inclusive community where well-being and belonging are as important as academic success. When you visit our campuses, you step into a world where every student is empowered to thrive as their authentic self in a community where relationships are built on empathy, trust and mutual respect.

Junior School

JK to Grade 6

In the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program (PYP), we nurture students’ natural curiosity. The foundation of the PYP is a commitment to guided inquiry: When students are empowered to ask questions and participate fully in the learning process, learning is engaging, relevant, challenging and significant.

Middle School

Grade 7 to Grade 8

During this vital growth period, we support each individual student’s development toward greater independence within a collaborative learning environment. The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Program (MYP), which includes Grade 9 and 10, combines academic excellence with opportunities to engage in the world. MYP students learn how to critically evaluate personal and global issues while developing their approach to learning.

Senior School

Grade 9 to Grade 12

Our Senior School learners embrace new challenges, dig deep, and emerge as confident citizens of the world. After completing the IB Middle Years Program in Grade 10, students enter the challenging two-year IB Diploma Program, recognized globally as the gold standard in education. This highly prestigious program prepares our students for the intellectual rigour of university by fostering the skills necessary for success.
